The SHOP office has been fluttering up a storm to road test the hottest mascaras on the market.

Product: Two faced Lash Injection Extreme Volume Mascara in Black, $35, kitcosmetics.com.au.
Guinea pig: Kate, web editor “I love a big, fat, mascara brush – and this one has the fattest brush I’ve ever seen!” Best point: My lashes have never looked so long. Worst point: It took more than my trusty make-up wipes to remove it. Would you buy it: Unless I find an even fatter brush, definitely!
Product: Maybelline NY Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara in Very Black, $17.95, 1300 369 327 Guinea pig: Alice, sub-editor/staff writer “As a devotee of the regular green Define-A-Lash mascara, I found this pretty pink version just as simple to apply but with extra volume that creates a slightly more dramatic look.” Best point: The flexible wand makes it super-easy to apply and not at all clumpy. Worst point: The flexi wand is tricky to get back into the tube (my hand got a black coating more than once). Would you buy it: I’m heading to the shops right now.
Product: Gorgeous Cosmetics mascara in Super Lash Black, $30, 1300 554 517. Guinea pig: Jane, senior market editor “Good for full, dark, daytime lashes.” Best point: Easy to apply with no clumping. Worst point: Not enough drama for evening application. Would you buy it: Yes – it’s the perfect mascara to wear to work.
Product: Clinique Lash Power Mascara in Black Onyx, $36, clinique.com.au. Guinea pig: Roshan, chief sub-editor “Love the lasting effect – and the neat spiral brush uncovers tiny lashes I never knew I had.” Best point: The rich, matt black formula – it’s somehow blacker than others I’ve tried. Worst point: Mascara tends to accumulate a little too much on the tip of the brush but a flick of the wrist as you remove it from the tube sorts it out. Would you buy it: Sure – my eyes, skin, everything is sensitive so Clinique is a genuine favourite.
Product: ModelCo Fat Lash Mascara, $34, modelco.com.au. Guinea pig: Emma, deputy chief sub-editor/features writer “Despite its name suggesting you’ll end up with ‘fat’ lashes, I actually found it gave me really thin and separate lashes – which, don’t get me wrong, is a good thing.” Best point: It’s hot pink so it’s super easy to find in your handbag! Worst point: It’s tough to get off the delicate skin under your eyes when you make a whoopsie. Would you buy it: Yep! Works a treat with my ModelCo Heated Lash Curler… funny that.
Product: Bloom Full & Flirty Mascara in Brown, $28, buy from e-Boutique. Guinea pig: Danielle, acting art director “I don’t normally wear brown mascara but I was surprised to find the colour is perfect for a more natural look.” Best point: Even by the end of the day there was no smudging and absolutely no clumps. Worst point: I can’t fault this one. Would you buy it: Definitely, but I think I’ll stick to black.
Product: Giorgio Armani Maestro High Volume Instant Design Mascara in 1, (02) 9931 8888. Guinea pig: Catherine, sub editor, Shop 4 Kids “Instead of the normal bristle brush, this mascara has a thin, square head with small grooves that run through the lashes, separating them while coating them in colour. With naturally long lashes, I found the brush awkward to use and had difficulty controlling the amount of product applied.” Best point: The brush separates lashes, and the colour is deep and rich. Worst point: Hard to control and messy to remove. Would you buy it: I don’t think so. I prefer a bristle brush.
Product: Bare Escentuals Big Tease Mascara in Black, $40, 1800 808 993. Guinea pig: Natalie, fashion office coordinator “A good basic mascara with nice consistency and deep black colour.” Best point: No clumping at all. This one goes on smoothly and lasts all day. Worst point: The double sided wand is a little tricky to master, I just stuck to using the side with regular short bristles and that worked a treat. Would you buy it: Yes, but a little more info on how to use the applicator properly would help!
Product: Revlon 3D Extreme Macara in Black, $20.95, 1800 025 488. Guinea pig: Brooke, production/picture editor “Anyone looking for killer full lashes will adore this mascara. It added serious thickness and no curler needed!” Best point: The small brush end made it simple to coat every lash. I could be very specific about how much mascara was applied to each lash. Worst point: Believe it or not, the small brush end was a curse as well! Maybe it’s just the early morning make up application, but the smaller end also meant that it look me twice as long to apply. Would you buy it: Absolutely. Anything that makes me look like I have lashes like Penélope Cruz, minus the extensions, works for me!
