Welcome to the beauty interns blog. Find out all the goss and going-ons from the
SHOP beauty cupboard…
I’m usually not one for rainbow eye make-up. When it comes to shadow, less is definitely more. And as I’m still a bit of an amateur in that department, I tend to stick to failsafe colours – shades of brown or pale pink.
But that was until I found this – the look from Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring haute couture show.
Orange, purple and green – three colours you would never think to put together (unless it was a costume party and you were going as a parrot) yet somehow, it works.
The seamless blend of colour with a flick of eyeliner makes it fun but a little sexy at the same time. And the copper pout anchors the look so the rest of the face doesn’t look washed out.
Seeing as it probably won’t become an everyday look, I’d suggest saving on the eyeshadow, (CoverGirl has a pretty similar match, the Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Eyeshadow in Tropical Fusion, $13.95, 1800 181 040) but investing in an eye primer to avoid looking like Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter halfway through the night. Try Benefit Stay Don’t Stray Eye Primer + Concealer, $45, (02) 8353 5000.
If the Gaultier look is a bit much for you (and I don’t blame you), for a more subtle take on the look try a wash of orange shadow with a quick flick of liquid liner. Loose shadows pack the most colour pigment for your money (and you can up the colour ante by pressing powder on rather than sweeping). Napoleon Perdis has great ones. Me? I’m giving it a go as is. But I’m contemplating having a themed party to test-drive it… just in case.
