Ode To The Skull-obsessed
There are so many enormously vital things I need for my new home right now (like a microwave, kettle, even drawers for my socks and underwear) but I’ve developed a weird buying addiction - and it’s burning huge holes in my wallet every pay day. I love skulls. Everywhere.

There are so many enormously vital things I need for my new home right now (like a microwave, kettle, even drawers for my socks and underwear) but I’ve developed a weird buying addiction - and it’s burning huge holes in my wallet every pay day. I love skulls. Everywhere. On my kitchen windowsill, on my dining room table, in my bathroom, on a chain around my neck – everywhere. I don’t even care if I’m late to the party – their time up in lights may have faded right after the chain stores started replicating Alexander McQueen’s skull print scarf but they’re rocking my world like nothing else at the moment.
Maybe it’s because there are so many good ones around. In moderation (maybe something I should work on), adding a skull is a good way to bring the bad-ass to whatever you’re blinging out. Like a naked index finger on a Saturday night that’s in desperate need of a little bedazzling – just add an awesome gold ring with a big ol’ black skull on it, like this House of Harlow 1960 one I’m loving ($69 from styletread.com.au). Or, if it’s a white-wash timber coffee table you’re trying to jazz up (like moi), look no further than this outrageously awesome candle from Insight, ($48 from urbanoutfitters.com). Here are some others on my wish list:
- Vanrycke’s skull necklace, $135 from fallow.com.au. It’ll toughen up black on black even further.
- Crystal Head Vodka, $72.90 from danmurphys.com.au. Did you know Dan Aykroyd produces this little piece of amazingness? The coolest bottle addition your stash will ever see.
- Venessa Arizaga’s Mexico skull charm bracelet, £135 from Liberty, liberty.co.uk. There are no words – just gimme quick.
Now, if I could just channel the same passion into finding the perfect microwave, I’ll be sorted. Any advice on how to make this happen is welcome, please! But more importantly, make sure you show me your new purchases by using the hash tag #seewantSHOP on Instagram.
