Colour my World

Anyone else just a little scared of colour? I’ve worn black (clothes, shoes and accessories...) all winter long – but now that spring is in the air, I’m freaking out over the super-bright kit on offer. Luckily for me, last week’s spring/summer shows at David Jones and Myer gave me plenty of tips on ways to work colour into my life just by switching up my hair and make-up so I won’t have to overhaul my entire wardrobe.

At David Jones, Napoleon Perdis created two summery looks - my favourite one paired a spearmint eye with punchy lips. “The clash of pastels against the red and orange lips is a really modern way to wear colour,” says Perdis. The key to keeping this look fresh is all in the texture – choose matte over shimmer unless you want to be mistaken for a Spice Girl. Perdis also used his genius new prod, The One Concealer ($36, napoleonperdis.com), on every model from Alice Burdeu to Miranda Kerr. Its peachy base means it blends into all skin tones – smart.

Over at Myer, Kevin Murphy sent dip-dyed ponytails down the runway – fun! Inspired by African colours, the look was sexy and sleek but only temporary thanks to the orange Kevin.Murphy Color.Bug ($24.95, 1800 104 204) worked into the ends of the models’ locks. I love it so much I’m not even going to wait ’til the sun properly comes out – I’m going to try it this weekend. Probably with black.

PS. Check out the new Kevin.Murphy iPad app (free, from iTunes) – it’s packed with loads of behind-the-scenes content, including info on new products (and podcasts on how to use them) as well as a salon locator and customer promotions.
