This month we teamed up with our mates at Kit to whip up a brand-new, exclusive-to-SHOP lipgloss. Kit’s famous Lip Glaze is high-shine, creamy and packed with pigment – so what better beauty staple to customise, SHOP-style?
The first step in creating our It-gloss was researching the shade of the season. Yes, it was slightly daunting but after trawling through runway shots and celebrity pics galore, the clear winner, with its perfect blend of pink and red, was raspberry. Bright but classy, sweet but sexy, the entire SHOP team gave it a big tick.
Next, we created an old-school moodboard of the most delicious, raspberry-inspired pics we could find. We haphazardly pinned on everything from photos of sorbet scoops to tearsheets of rich, crushed-berry purses and heels. The inspiration went straight to the Kit team so they could start testing shades in their lab.
A week later, the top-secret samples arrived on my desk – a mix of colours, all with slightly different levels of pink and red. Then came the (really) fun bit: enlisting the SHOP team to try on all of them, so we could make sure we’d found the colour that flatters everyone. Once we had that locked in, it was full steam ahead and The SHOP Shade was born. But we wanted to make sure you could not only enjoy The SHOP Shade on your lips but in your home and wardrobe too, so fashion news editor, Laura, sifted through endless racks of clothing and accessories in every red under the sun (only pulling the ones she felt were exactly like The SHOP Shade), while I trawled websites and homewares stores for furniture and lifestyle buys that fit the bill.
Then it was time for the “glamorous” part. I rounded up six of the team to wear The SHOP Shade Lip Glaze in a photo shoot, to prove that it looks good on all of us, not just some. After a few (ahem, hundred) takes, our photographer declared the day done, and we all agreed that models just don’t get enough credit…
While we were pulling together the story for our November issue, Kit was just as busy, creating a whole set of products in The SHOP Shade to complement our exclusive Lip Glaze.
