What is your favourite item in store at the moment? “I’ve had moments of falling for every dress in the store, but right now I am most in love with “Doll face” – a gorgeous little ’60s-inspired French cotton tulle dress. It’s very Twiggy.”
What is the best selling items in the store at the moment? “Our most recent addition to the range “To sir, with love” is an elegant, Grace Kelly-esque dress and has had an amazing reaction. “Lullaby Rose” has also been a favourite with our brides. It has a Grecian feel and is made with the softest hand-washed georgette silk. It’s flattering on every body type too.”
What is your favourite trend at the moment? “I love the combined look of soft dresses and camis teamed with more urban denims, cropped vests and opaque leggings. For me, it bridges the gap between timeless elegance and the modern fashion revolution.”
What trend are you too afraid to try? “I don’t understand long denim shorts – I find them very unflattering. And I also find skull and cross bones very strange.”
What’s the biggest sale you’ve ever made in a day? “I can't remember the exact total of the sale, but I remember it took quite some time to package because this customer bought over 15 dresses. I think it was more about what she didn’t buy – lucky girl!”
Have you ever had a celebrity customer? “We have had some lovely people through the store, including Cate Blanchett, Kate Ritchie, Monique Wright and Holly Brisley. Some just admire the clothes but others walk out with a bag or two.”
What is your never fail gift recommendation? “A black dress – they never date.”
What have you bought from the store in the last few months? “I limited myself to two dresses this season which was very hard. I’ve purchased “Baby face loves lace” - a sweet frock style dress with a black French lace overlay and brown sugar silk slip, and “Lucy Locket” – an Italian silk Holly Hobbie dress with gorgeous lace-detailed pockets. I’ve worn it with leggings and ballet flats as well as knee high boots and a turtle neck underneath. It’s very versatile. Now I’m holding out for the new winter 2008 collection “Never on Mondays”, which is due in store in February. I will definitely have to break my two dress limit for that. The range is another combination of laces, silks and knits and features a winter coat called “This must be Love”, which will definitely be my first love of the season.”
Do you have any crazy customer stories? “The most recent was a lady who took the tie off our change room curtains and wrapped it around her like a belt. She wanted to know if she could have it with the dress. She was definitely creative - I'll give her that!”
