Williamsburg
Monk Vintage
By far the most glammed-up outlet of the charity-store chain, this shop boasts a huge collection of '60s and '70s garb, and a great selection of bright hoop and stiff petticoats, which decorates the ceiling. 496 Driggs Ave, +1 718 386 6665.

Shoe Market
This is the place for that perfect pair of heels. Not too high but high enough - the kind that easily take an evening of bar hopping after a day's shopping in their stride. 160 N 6th St, +1 718 388 8495.

Greenpoint
Angel St Thrift
Nothing much to look at from the outside, but there are bargains here, if you roll up your sleeves and dig deep. Plus, much of the proceeds benefit abuse problems. 67 Guernsey St, +1 212 229 0546.

Old Hollywood
True to its name, this store does make you feel like you're in a black and white talkie. As well as vintage finds, the shop has a stellar collection of local jewellery designers. 110 Meserole Ave, +1 718 389 0837.

Park Slope

Monkey Whistles & Motorbikes
