Jodhi calls it quits
Host of über popular fashion series Australia’s Next Top Model Jodhi Meares has quit her role just as the show was set to start its fifth season. The fashion designer cited nagging stage fright as the reason behind the shock decision, admitting she vomited with fear before going on camera. No word on the new host will be but we’re happy to get right back to gossiping about the important stuff – like which model refuses to get her hair cut and who has to wear the most hideous frock on camera…

Kate’s a golden girl
Kate Moss is now literally one of the most valuable models in history, with a 50 kilogram solid gold statue of the super strutter unveiled in London this week. The sculpture by British artist Marc Quinn is entitled ‘Siren’ and is worth more than $3.2 million (Australian, that is). To see Miss Moss in all her golden glory, head to the British Museum – she’ll be on display from October 4 until January 25.

The king of the supermodel dies, aged 83
Jerry Ford, who co-founded the Ford Modelling Agency with his wife Eileen (and pioneered the concept of the supermodel) has died this week, aged 83. With Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week kicking off on September 5, we’ll be on the lookout for any black arm bands or similar tributes to the well-loved mogul.

Chewing the fat at Fashion Week
As international fashion weeks roll around, so does the on-going skinny debate. And this year the powers that be are stepping it up a notch by setting up "health initiative booths" (read: handing out eating disorder pamphlets) all around New York’s Bryant Park, including in the backstage areas. Now, while we think it’s great they’re making the effort, what are the chances anyone is going to risk being seen at one of these very public booths? Oh well, it’s the thought that counts.

Very stylish TV 
Apparently there’s no such thing as too many celeb-endorsed reality TV shows. Even though Denise Richards’ version tanked and Pamela Anderson’s features Australian Big Brother. Now the news that stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe is also jumping on the bandwagon with a fly-on-the-wall series called The Rachel Zoe Project. It airs in the US next month, and we have absolutely no doubt it will end up on our Foxtel IQ in the next few months too.

Do you remember back in the days of Brenda, Kelly and Steve, when being the first to get a 90210 lunchbox gave you the same amount of bragging rights as being the first to get an iPhone does now. And don’t even get us started on the trading cards! Well, the makers of the spin-off series clearly remember this as well, with 90210 clothing, cosmetics and school supplies set to be launched in the US in 2009. Let’s just hope the series actually lasts that long…

Kirrily Johnston hearts New Zealand
Whether it’s sporting competitions, accent mockery or the swapping of innapropriatte sheep jokes, there has always been a certain rivalry between Australia and New Zealand. But apparently that rivalry does not apply to fashion. This week, Australia’s fashion sweetheart Kirrily Johnston has announced that she will be the first ever Australian designer to showcase her wares at the upcoming Air New Zealand Fashion Week. “ANZFW is seen as the most directional and up and coming Fashion Week”, says Johnston. Which makes us wonder just how many other Aussie designers will be jumping the ditch to follow suit…

Channelling a rapper in baggy jeans, metallic gloves and a chain belt in this pic shot for US Harper’s Bazaar, the 75-year-old designer revealed, “believe it or not, I love rap!” We’re not sure if we’re sold on this street look – somehow we just can’t imagine seeing the classic quilted Chanel bag paired with a set of diamante grills….

While the Sydney boutique at Bondi Junction prepares for it’s first birthday, Paul & Joe have announced the French label is coming south, with a new store set to open in Melbourne’s South Yarra. But before the actual bricks-and-mortar boutique opens its doors, a pop-up store will open in its place at Shop 2, 462 Toorak Rd, South Yarra, Vic. Super SNAG or superhero?
Has the male population taken their superhero fetish a little too far? Recent figures from the US and Europe have shown a massive increase in hosiery sales to men (that’s right, tights and stockings), with luxelegwear.com claiming 80 per cent of its sales are now to males. But is it for fashion, comfort, fitness or something else entirely? Some men claimed tights stimulate circulation and alleviate muscle fatigue, but others simply wanted leggings for extra warmth. And while Marni’s menswear collection sent out lads in brightly coloured leggings, it seems that not everyone is embracing this new trend – the American NBA has banned its players from wearing tights on the court. Could this be the natural progression for men, from skinny jeans to tights? We hope not!

Erin Wasson; buddy of Ksubi, ex-muse of Alexander Wang and face of Maybelline NY is going where many models have gone before, and trying her hand at fashion design. The self-proclaimed skater girl has created a range of streetwear for girls (left) that’s more laid-back chic than cutesy cartoon pink (which she says is what she hates about all the current girl’s skate ranges). Think cut-off shorts, loose black tanks and zip-embellished jackets. The range is only available in the states unfortunately, so let’s hope the odd piece pops up on eBay.

Madonna’s face: yours, for a price…
There are a lot of beautiful people in Tinstletown – and who hasn’t sat back and thought, ‘Gee… if only I had Kate Hudson’s hair, Rachel Bilson’s nose or Elle Macpherson’s legs.’ But apparently the most lust-after look at cosmetic surgeries the world over is, wait for it, Madonna. And it will cost you upwards of $30,000 to achieve it.

Meg Ryan used to be the hot facial favourite with her cutesy girl-next-door looks, but now the combination of Madge’s ‘high, fleshy’ cheekbones, ‘big, wide set eyes’ and ‘smooth but not frozen’ forehead have made her the modern ideal of beauty (and here we were thinking she was starting to look a bit scary!) This, of course, has re-sparked the rumours that she has actually had a fair bit of work done herself in order to achieve this ‘perfect’ face. Hmmm… no comment. 

And if you want an under-40s version of this perfect face shape, take a look at the Olsen twins. Apparently they have a ‘starter version’ of the face, which, sadly for them, translates to they-already-look-like-they’ve-had-too-much-work-done-and-they’re-barely-in-their-twenties.

First there was Paris the movie star, then the fragrance, the album, the TV show, the clothes and the watch range. Now its Paris Hilton: the shoes! “I thought it would be perfect to dress head to toe in me!” says Paris. Hmmm... well, at least someone will be buying them. Hot head Naomi Campbell has her knickers in a knot… again. And this time it’s her fellow catwalkers that are giving her the irrits. "The term 'supermodel' gets thrown around too much nowadays," Campbell told the UK’s The Daily Mirror. "I just think the term is used a little too loosely. Kate Moss is obviously a supermodel but after Gisele, I don’t think there’s been one." The idea of vintage clothing has been given the royal seal of approval with Princess Anne spotted out and about in the very same outfit (hat and all) that she wore to Charles and Di’s wedding in 1981. Okay, time to get controversial. A global study released this week has ranked Sydney as the fifth most fashionable city in the world – behind New York, Rome, Paris and Milan. While poor old Melbourne actually dropped three spots to number 18. The SHOP office is actually fairly low on born-and-bred Sydney-siders – and many of us take trips down to Melbourne for the shopping – so it left us wondering, just what are these studies based on? Perhaps the lab coat-wearing people responsible for the results just weren’t able to find all the hidden fashion gems that Melbourne is famous for. And yes, this news update was written by a Victorian, obviously!

Paris on a nine month waiting list for the latest ‘It’ accessory?
If the latest batch of Hollywood babies – and the amounts their photos have sold for – is anything to go by, a bundle of joy is the hottest accessory a celeb can have (twins give you double points). So, of course it’s no surprise it’s rumoured that Ms Hilton will be upgrading Tinkerbell for a mini-me ASAP (anything Nicole can do, she can do better, seems to be her mantra). The latest fuel sparking the rumours is that Paris was spotted out at various LA events this week, gasp, not drinking! A source told E!, “She’s not drinking. It’s the first time I’ve seen her do that.” Hmm…

Beyonce's tasty clevage (??)
Newlyweds Beyoncé Knowles and Jay Z clearly miss each other when out on the road - if the news of Jay Z’s request for a replica of Beyoncé’s bust made from watermelons is anything to go by (yes, you read that right!). While in Nigeria on Friday to perform at the Thisday Festival with Rhianna, Jay Z made the unusual request to his five-star hotel who were only too happy to oblige (apparently they used cherries for the nipples, but maybe that’s too much information).  But what really surprised us was not the random request (hey, he’s a celebrity, that’s what they do), but the fact it wasn’t Mrs Z’s more infamous boot-tay that he requested – especially with all the rap and R&B songs dedicated to women with a bit of junk in their trunk (or just plain old big butts). We wonder if J.Lo’s husband Anthony, or Kim Kardashian’s latest squeeze feel the same way about their partners most famous body parts…

Scent and the city: the sequel
So you’ve seen the movie once, probably twice. And you’re now in the middle of re-watching the whole box set. But as SATC mania slowly dies down we’re left with a lingering question… what’s next? The house that Karl built

First there was the Chanel box clutch, then the bicycle, and now we can add a “Designed by Karl Lagerfeld” house to our ever growing list of Chanel things we want but can’t really afford. That’s right, Karl is adding another bullet point to his resume by signing on to create amazingly fabulous (we’re assuming) houses as part of Dubai’s Isla Moda (fashion island). We can’t wait to see how these turn out. Watch this space!
