29.09.08 One to watch: Alex Perry Four-time judge of Australia's Next Top Model Alex Perry has scored his own reality show to air on Foxtel. The sunglasses-wearing fashion designer famous for his fanciful frocks and acerbic comments has said that he'd like the show to be like a behind-the-scenes wedding video. "I would really love to do a bridal aspect because the craziest stuff always happens at weddings," he said. Hey, if that means a free Alex Perry wedding gown, we're in! |

26.09.08 Belts. They keep your pants up. But they do other stuff to. Like look good. And since summer is on it’s way, we’re ready to fold our black patent leather waist-cinchers up and put them away for next winter. What are we coveting instead? Anything bright, fun and that looks good with our tie-dye maxi-dress. Like these belts by Jester which totally fit the bill and come in eight sun-lovin’ colours to boot. For the whole experience, check out jesterbelts.com. And you thought you’d seen one belt, you’d seen ’em all.

25.09.08 Tickled pink October is Pink Ribbon month which means it’s time to indulge your love for anything pink, rose, blush, crimson and even ah, off-red (hey, bear with us, it’s for a good cause!). One of our favourite Pink Ribbon friends is Bonds, and his year’s collection of candy-hued goodies includes hipster briefs, tees and the pièce de résistance, the infamous chesty Bonds singlet. So on go, wear your heart on your sleeve… or your undies, whatever the case may be. Pick yours up from Bonds retailers nationally, 1800 054 321. |

24.09.08 Levi’s 501s – watch out, they’re back! We associate them with Beverly Hills 90210 (the original, that is), but it seems, just like the show itself, the classic jeans are making a serious comeback. A new updated design has just launched globally in a new slimmer cut and vintage-inspired finishes. With both buys and girls styles on offer, we’re predicting sales will go through the roof. |
 |
23.09.08 Fergie is best dressed People magazine has released its ever-popular best and worst dressed list for 2008 and Fergie has officially clawed her way to the top of the glamorous heap. Apparently the sexy singer doesn’t like to throw anything away and fills two converted bedrooms with clothes – one for casual and one for red-carpet attire. And you thought you were lucky to get three quarters of the built-in you share with your boyfriend... |
 |
22.09.08 Jodhi calls it quits Host of über popular fashion series Australia’s Next Top Model Jodhi Meares has quit her role just as the show was set to start its fifth season. The fashion designer cited nagging stage fright as the reason behind the shock decision, admitting she vomited with fear before going on camera. No word on the new host will be but we’re happy to get right back to gossiping about the important stuff – like which model refuses to get her hair cut and who has to wear the most hideous frock on camera…

19.09.08 Not so Ugly Betty For anyone else having Ugly Betty withdrawals, here’s a bit of a new-season teaser. Apparently Betty won’t be looking so… um… ugly anymore (not that she ever did), as the show’s producers have decided to morph Betty’s kooky style into a more designer-oriented one. And who will the genius behind making Betty’s new Marc Jacobs, Moschino and Dries Van Noten-filled wardrobe look like cluelessly combined hand-me-downs? None other than ex-Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with!

10.09.08 Delta does NYC If you’re like us, you will have noticed that Delta Goodrem has been looking a little less Ramsey Street and a little more Rodeo Drive since her comeback last year. And apparently, the organisers of New York Fashion Week agree as they not only requested permission to use Delta’s song “In This Life” in one of the shows, but they also asked Delta to strut her stuff on the catwalk too. Not bad work if you can get it, hey Delta!

08.09.08 Posh dressing It seems an almost daily occurrence that a celebrity decides just because they’re clad head-to-toe in designer clothes they’re qualified to design them as well. Victoria Beckham is the latest to add her name to the list, with her ten-piece range of very posh dresses being unveiled at New York Fashion Week this week.

05.09.08 Welcome back Phoebe Philo! The mastermind behind such fashion frenzies as the Chloé Paddington bag is back. While she left the helm of Chloé in 2006, this time she’s heading up yet another Parisian fashion house, the ever-glamorous Celine. “I want to create clothes, shoes, bags and accessories that are relevant to right now – modern, exciting designs that women will desire and appreciate,” says Philo. We can’t wait to see what covetable creations she comes up with when she unveils her first collection next March…

04.09.08 Kate’s a golden girl Kate Moss is now literally one of the most valuable models in history, with a 50 kilogram solid gold statue of the super strutter unveiled in London this week. The sculpture by British artist Marc Quinn is entitled ‘Siren’ and is worth more than $3.2 million (Australian, that is). To see Miss Moss in all her golden glory, head to the British Museum – she’ll be on display from October 4 until January 25.

03.09.08 The king of the supermodel dies, aged 83 Jerry Ford, who co-founded the Ford Modelling Agency with his wife Eileen (and pioneered the concept of the supermodel) has died this week, aged 83. With Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week kicking off on September 5, we’ll be on the lookout for any black arm bands or similar tributes to the well-loved mogul.

01.09.08 Chewing the fat at Fashion Week As international fashion weeks roll around, so does the on-going skinny debate. And this year the powers that be are stepping it up a notch by setting up "health initiative booths" (read: handing out eating disorder pamphlets) all around New York’s Bryant Park, including in the backstage areas. Now, while we think it’s great they’re making the effort, what are the chances anyone is going to risk being seen at one of these very public booths? Oh well, it’s the thought that counts.

 |
29.08.08 Very stylish TV Apparently there’s no such thing as too many celeb-endorsed reality TV shows. Even though Denise Richards’ version tanked and Pamela Anderson’s features Australian Big Brother. Now the news that stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe is also jumping on the bandwagon with a fly-on-the-wall series called The Rachel Zoe Project. It airs in the US next month, and we have absolutely no doubt it will end up on our Foxtel IQ in the next few months too.

28.08.08 Gemma Ward to retire? The career span of a model is not a long one. However, Aussie catwalker Gemma Ward might be hanging up her stilettos a bit earlier than most, with rumours circulating she’s about to “officially retire” from modelling to focus on her acting career. Watch this space.

27.08.08 Crazy Karl part three First we reported that he was designing houses in Dubai, then we found him unleashing his inner gansta for Harper's Bazaar and now Karl has leant his name and his personal style to a limited edition range of teddy bears! There are only going to be 2500 created, each priced at a very reasonable $1500. We wonder which lucky A-list infant will get their grubby mitts on a Karl Bear first… (yes, Suri we’re talking about you!)

26.08.08 Beverly Hills 90210: The merchandise years Do you remember back in the days of Brenda, Kelly and Steve, when being the first to get a 90210 lunchbox gave you the same amount of bragging rights as being the first to get an iPhone does now. And don’t even get us started on the trading cards! Well, the makers of the spin-off series clearly remember this as well, with 90210 clothing, cosmetics and school supplies set to be launched in the US in 2009. Let’s just hope the series actually lasts that long…

25.08.08 Under construction Word on the street is that one of our favourite websites, www.dropdeadgorgeousdaily.com, is about to under go a massive make over. We’re not really sure you can top its daily online shopping titbits, but we can’t wait to see what it comes up with. Watch this space! |

22.08.08 Luna landing There are only eight days left of winter which means it’s officially time to start tracking down those great new spring trends, colours and, of course, new spring labels. And Sydney-based brand Luna is definitely one to watch once the warm weather gets here. Its first spring drop will be hitting General Pants Co. in September.

21.08.08 Kirrily Johnston hearts New Zealand Whether it’s sporting competitions, accent mockery or the swapping of innapropriatte sheep jokes, there has always been a certain rivalry between Australia and New Zealand. But apparently that rivalry does not apply to fashion. This week, Australia’s fashion sweetheart Kirrily Johnston has announced that she will be the first ever Australian designer to showcase her wares at the upcoming Air New Zealand Fashion Week. “ANZFW is seen as the most directional and up and coming Fashion Week”, says Johnston. Which makes us wonder just how many other Aussie designers will be jumping the ditch to follow suit…

20.08.08 Jeans, please If there’s ever a time to bring out the bootleg jeans, it’s now. Take cue from 7 for all Mankind who have used fashion designer Tom Ford’s pad as the backdrop for it’s new campaign shots photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. Carolyn Murphy is that bronzed goddess and shows us how to work the Dojo jeans with a bit of poolside glamour for the trans-seasonal months. They’re in store now at Myer, DJ’s and select boutiques, or check out www.7forallmankind.com.au. So, what are you waiting for?

15.08.08 Karl Lagerfeld – a rapper? Karl Lagerfeld has ditched his trademark suit in favour of a new look. Channelling a rapper in baggy jeans, metallic gloves and a chain belt in this pic shot for US Harper’s Bazaar, the 75-year-old designer revealed, “believe it or not, I love rap!” We’re not sure if we’re sold on this street look – somehow we just can’t imagine seeing the classic quilted Chanel bag paired with a set of diamante grills….

While the Sydney boutique at Bondi Junction prepares for it’s first birthday, Paul & Joe have announced the French label is coming south, with a new store set to open in Melbourne’s South Yarra. But before the actual bricks-and-mortar boutique opens its doors, a pop-up store will open in its place at Shop 2, 462 Toorak Rd, South Yarra, Vic. Only open for one month from August 20, we suggest you get in quick if you want to pick up one of Paul & Joe’s new-season pieces.

11.08.08 Super SNAG or superhero? Has the male population taken their superhero fetish a little too far? Recent figures from the US and Europe have shown a massive increase in hosiery sales to men (that’s right, tights and stockings), with luxelegwear.com claiming 80 per cent of its sales are now to males. But is it for fashion, comfort, fitness or something else entirely? Some men claimed tights stimulate circulation and alleviate muscle fatigue, but others simply wanted leggings for extra warmth. And while Marni’s menswear collection sent out lads in brightly coloured leggings, it seems that not everyone is embracing this new trend – the American NBA has banned its players from wearing tights on the court. Could this be the natural progression for men, from skinny jeans to tights? We hope not!

08.08.08 Shopping for good karma If you live in Perth, have a thing for vintage, and wouldn’t mind chocking up some brownie points with the universe, then this is your lucky day (it is 08.08.08 after all). The clever girls behind Two Bucks ‘Til Wednesday have just announced the date of their next vintage clothing sale (nothing is over $20 and profits go to the Cancer Research Foundation). The sale will be held August 30 at 24 Namur St, North Perth. The doors are open from 2pm till 7pm, but be sure to get in quick to score the best bargains. For more details check out the Facebook page here.

07.08.08 Model slash whatever Erin Wasson; buddy of Ksubi, ex-muse of Alexander Wang and face of Maybelline NY is going where many models have gone before, and trying her hand at fashion design. The self-proclaimed skater girl has created a range of streetwear for girls (left) that’s more laid-back chic than cutesy cartoon pink (which she says is what she hates about all the current girl’s skate ranges). Think cut-off shorts, loose black tanks and zip-embellished jackets. The range is only available in the states unfortunately, so let’s hope the odd piece pops up on eBay.

06.08.08 Madonna’s face: yours, for a price… There are a lot of beautiful people in Tinstletown – and who hasn’t sat back and thought, ‘Gee… if only I had Kate Hudson’s hair, Rachel Bilson’s nose or Elle Macpherson’s legs.’ But apparently the most lust-after look at cosmetic surgeries the world over is, wait for it, Madonna. And it will cost you upwards of $30,000 to achieve it.
Meg Ryan used to be the hot facial favourite with her cutesy girl-next-door looks, but now the combination of Madge’s ‘high, fleshy’ cheekbones, ‘big, wide set eyes’ and ‘smooth but not frozen’ forehead have made her the modern ideal of beauty (and here we were thinking she was starting to look a bit scary!) This, of course, has re-sparked the rumours that she has actually had a fair bit of work done herself in order to achieve this ‘perfect’ face. Hmmm… no comment.
And if you want an under-40s version of this perfect face shape, take a look at the Olsen twins. Apparently they have a ‘starter version’ of the face, which, sadly for them, translates to they-already-look-like-they’ve-had-too-much-work-done-and-they’re-barely-in-their-twenties. For more have-they-or-haven't-they celebs click here. |

05.08.08 Now in store: Vans goes old school Vans are having a bit of a retro moment (aren’t we all) re-releasing its first-ever women’s footwear style, the Authentic. And the timing couldn’t have been better, as these simple white sand shoes will go just perfectly with all the floral and frills that are hitting stores as we speak. Don’t miss out, these will sell fast!
Shoes, $69.95 (5-10), Vans, (02) 9332 4744.

04.08.08 Paris Hilton… shoe designer? First there was Paris the movie star, then the fragrance, the album, the TV show, the clothes and the watch range. Now its Paris Hilton: the shoes! “I thought it would be perfect to dress head to toe in me!” says Paris. Hmmm... well, at least someone will be buying them. And while the range, currently only available at Macy’s in the US, doesn’t require a trust fund-sized bank account to pay for, we can’t say we are that upset that they’re not coming down under just yet.

01.08.08 I dream of jean-ie… Today is Jeans for Genes Day. Which is not only a great cause and lets you wear denim to work (although we do that most days anyway), but this year it also comes with some very stylish accessories. Those clever jeans for genes marketing people have come up with a bevy of fashionable trinkets including this denim cuff, $3 (Fendi, eat your heart out) and some slightly Tiffany-esque dog tags, $4 (ribbons, schmibbons, we say). If only all good karma looked this good.

31.07.08 French Vogue hearts fur Yes, that’s right. We all know fashion can be risqué, but this seems just plain rude. French Vogue is stamping it’s pro-fur foot very loudly this month with this latest fashion spread featuring a model who is not just wearing a whole lotta fur, but she’s flipping the bird to a sign-sporting protester, too. Not a fan of the ladylike trend then either huh, Vogue?

30.07.08 Brad heads to The Ivy One of Sydney’s hottest hairstylists is teaming up with one of Sydney’s hottest nightspots, as Brag Ngata reveals his plans to open a very glam salon as part of The Ivy complex. The official ribbon cutting date is September 1, but if you can’t wait until then you can still book at Brad’s Darlinghurst salon or check out our interview with him here.

29.07.08 New models not so super Hot head Naomi Campbell has her knickers in a knot… again. And this time it’s her fellow catwalkers that are giving her the irrits. "The term 'supermodel' gets thrown around too much nowadays," Campbell told the UK’s The Daily Mirror. "I just think the term is used a little too loosely. Kate Moss is obviously a supermodel but after Gisele, I don’t think there’s been one." And for once, we might actually agree with her – there are more beauties out there deemed ‘supermodel’ material than you can throw a mobile phone at.

28.07.08 Record breakers Planning on staying in bed this weekend? Well, maybe you can be persuaded to venture out from under your doona to participate in a world record attempt at your local Target – there’s free make-up and other goodies in it for you if you do! Bourjois are about to launch its cult wares in Target stores nationally, and are attempting to break the world record for the most make-up applications in one day to celebrate (those crazy French!) 24.07.08 Feeling charitable This month, The Body Shop is launching the Shea Lip Care Duo, $12.95, thebodyshop.com.au, which not only cares for your lips (important) and encourages sharing (very important), but also raises money for the White Ribbon Foundation, which helps to educate young Australians about respectful relationships and non-violence (extremely important). So pucker up!

23.07.08 Who’s the greenest of them all? It’s always a popularity contest isn’t it… Not only do green celebs get industry kudos and self-satisfaction from doing something worthwhile, now they get an award as well! Well, if they’re voted the world’s most enviro-friendly celeb, they will. Playhouse Disney is holding the Green Planet Awards this year, with nominated A-listers including Leonardo DiCaprio (surely he’s a shoe in!), Sienna Miller, Madonna, Lily Cole (apparently she only works with eco-conscious brands), Lily Allen, Johnny Depp and Stella McCartney. And the little green statue goes to…

22.07.08 What, this old thing? The idea of vintage clothing has been given the royal seal of approval with Princess Anne spotted out and about in the very same outfit (hat and all) that she wore to Charles and Di’s wedding in 1981. And she’s among good company with her eco-friendly, cost-per-wear mentality. Fellow Brit Kate Moss has several items, including a floor-length beige ball gown and this black fur jacket, on high rotation. While wannabe Brit Kylie Minogue can’t get this star patterned dress out of her head, or her closet.

21.07.08 A bonding experience Bonds launches its new range of breathable cotton tees today, just in time for summer (well, actually about four months early). The new tees for both men and women are set to give brands like American Apparel a run for its money. Especially if the sexy new campaign featuring Michael Clarke (pictured in the Retro cool raglan tee) is anything to go by... We wonder if they’re drool proof!

18.07.08 Peaches for sale Anyone who’s a fan of Peaches Geldof’s wardrobe can now bid for it on eBay. She’s selling her old clothes online right now (and donating a percentage of the sales to charity!) and wait for it… she’s also modelling the clothes herself!

17.07.08 Is Sydney more fashionable than Melbourne? Okay, time to get controversial. A global study released this week has ranked Sydney as the fifth most fashionable city in the world – behind New York, Rome, Paris and Milan. While poor old Melbourne actually dropped three spots to number 18. The SHOP office is actually fairly low on born-and-bred Sydney-siders – and many of us take trips down to Melbourne for the shopping – so it left us wondering, just what are these studies based on? Perhaps the lab coat-wearing people responsible for the results just weren’t able to find all the hidden fashion gems that Melbourne is famous for. And yes, this news update was written by a Victorian, obviously!

16.07.08 Paris on a nine month waiting list for the latest ‘It’ accessory? If the latest batch of Hollywood babies – and the amounts their photos have sold for – is anything to go by, a bundle of joy is the hottest accessory a celeb can have (twins give you double points). So, of course it’s no surprise it’s rumoured that Ms Hilton will be upgrading Tinkerbell for a mini-me ASAP (anything Nicole can do, she can do better, seems to be her mantra). The latest fuel sparking the rumours is that Paris was spotted out at various LA events this week, gasp, not drinking! A source told E!, “She’s not drinking. It’s the first time I’ve seen her do that.” Hmm…
Check out our gallery of stunning celebs and their baby bumps here.

15.07.08 Beyonce's tasty clevage (??) Newlyweds Beyoncé Knowles and Jay Z clearly miss each other when out on the road - if the news of Jay Z’s request for a replica of Beyoncé’s bust made from watermelons is anything to go by (yes, you read that right!). While in Nigeria on Friday to perform at the Thisday Festival with Rhianna, Jay Z made the unusual request to his five-star hotel who were only too happy to oblige (apparently they used cherries for the nipples, but maybe that’s too much information). But what really surprised us was not the random request (hey, he’s a celebrity, that’s what they do), but the fact it wasn’t Mrs Z’s more infamous boot-tay that he requested – especially with all the rap and R&B songs dedicated to women with a bit of junk in their trunk (or just plain old big butts). We wonder if J.Lo’s husband Anthony, or Kim Kardashian’s latest squeeze feel the same way about their partners most famous body parts… Check out a gallery of our favourite curvy celebs here.

14.07.08 Scent and the city: the sequel So you’ve seen the movie once, probably twice. And you’re now in the middle of re-watching the whole box set. But as SATC mania slowly dies down we’re left with a lingering question… what’s next? A new fragrance is what. And while staring at this sweet purple bottle will not fill the Carrie-sized gap in your life, at least you’ll be able to wear this new fragrance for many years to come (or until the much-rumoured movie sequel comes out at least!)
Sarah Jessica Parker Covet Pure Bloom is on sale September 7.

10.07.08 The house that Karl built
First there was the Chanel box clutch, then the bicycle, and now we can add a “Designed by Karl Lagerfeld” house to our ever growing list of Chanel things we want but can’t really afford. That’s right, Karl is adding another bullet point to his resume by signing on to create amazingly fabulous (we’re assuming) houses as part of Dubai’s Isla Moda (fashion island). We can’t wait to see how these turn out. Watch this space!

07.07.08 Smells like celebutant spirit Word on the grapevine is that Kim Kardashian of “best mates with Paris” and sex-tape fame is going to follow in her gal pal’s foot steps by releasing a fragrance. It’s rumoured the scent will be released in May next year, and given how much Kimmy banks on her famous booty, we’re already placing bets that the bottle will take on a similarly shapely silhouette...

06.07.08 Man, I feel like a woman Marc Jacobs loves to make a splash – his arrival at a celeb fancy dress party dressed as a giant camel toe (the literal sense, not the unfortunate fashion faux pas) is just one example. And now he’s decided to dump the women from his women’s wear ad campaign in favour of the very androgynous male model Cole Mohr. At least he has great legs!
