Designer for Tree of Life, Rachel Borthwick invites us into her character-filled family home.
"I love our wall of religious icons. We’ve been collecting pieces from around the world for the past twenty years. These ones are from Greece, Spain, Italy and southern India," says Rachel. "Our home is full of contrasts. It’s a Victorian house, but I like to describe our decorating as gypsy mixed with a dash of Mediterranean.
Ideas to steal
1. Don’t limit yourself to one particular style when decorating. There’s no reason why each room in the house can’t have its own theme. Metallic candelabra, $220, Seletti, 1300 730 244.
2. Keep a focus on the pieces that you love and decorate your home around them. That way, you’ll feel inspired every time you walk into a room. Iznik Ceramic Vase, $225, e-Buy, (02) 9648 6680, e-buy.net.au.
3. Sometimes less is best. Open spaces can still be warm and inviting, so stick with statement pieces and keep clutter to a minimum. Globe, $129, Australian Geographic, (02) 9473 6700.
