Co-creator of shoe empire Andrea & Joen, Andrea Tan’s home is full of pieces she has collected.
“My style is quirky, organic and functional. I like collecting interesting pieces and mixing them with classic furniture. I love Murano glassware, especially from the vintage bevel cut series." Andrea is also a collector, and says, “I’ve started collecting illustrations. I think it’s a relatively new art medium and underrated compared to traditional art forms like paintings. My partner Jonathan is a big history buff so the house is full of tokens from his adventures, like Egyptian artefacts and loads of history books – but I’m more modern.”
Ideas to steal: 1. Start with big pieces like a lounge, a feature chair and dining table and then build around them with smaller ornaments in different colours and textures.
2. When displaying knick knacks, group items of different heights together. It adds dimensions and makes them stand out.
3. Try colour blocking. Having furniture and accessories in different shades of the one colour creates the illusion of space.
