With promises of centimetre loss from all my wobbly bits and an end to cellulite, it’s not hard to see why Hypoxi has become the new buzz word in the beauty industry.
So what is it? Basically this new fangled treatment (which Robbie Williams reportedly swears by) works on increasing the circulation to all your hard-to-budge fat stores (i.e. anything from the waist down) while you exercise to more efficiently melt the fat away. You have to sign up for 12 treatments ($600) and it’s recommended that you do these over a four week period for best results.
How did I go? Ok, this is hard to describe. When I arrived at the Hypoxi office I was fitted and squeezed into what looks like a futuristic wetsuit miniskirt. You then lie down and are strapped onto the bike pedals inside the Hypoxi machine. The skirt is then sealed over the top and the vacuum action of the machine starts up while you peddle (it’s not a hard workout, but you do get a bit sweaty in the skirt thingy).
Was it worth the hype? I really enjoyed the Hypoxi sessions – even though running around trying to squeeze three into your week is a lot harder than you’d think! Once you’re there you are treated like a complete queen and they even let you watch Sex and the City – a pretty good way to spend a lunch break if you ask me! As for the results, I noticed a big reduction in cellulite on my thighs and bum (actually it’s pretty much gone), and according to my final measurements I lost 22cm from my lower half (that’s 5cm of my stomach, 5cm off my thigh, 5cm off my bum and a few from my knees and hips). I also did the treatment with a friend who was a bigger size to start with, and while I didn’t notice much difference in the fit of my clothes after the month, she is now getting into outfits she hasn’t dared wear in years.
