Rosie Findlay - fashademic
POSTED 28.06.2010 @ 11:06
These days, almost everyone is a blogger, but we bookmarked PhD student Rosie Findlay’s witty site
fashademic way before it was cool. We find out what makes Rosie so different from all the rest…
Why did you start your blog?I'm doing my PhD on style blogs and so I started my own blog as a methodological exercise. It's a kind of research called 'participant observation' whereby you understand what something is like by doing it – and it was the perfect excuse to get into blogging!
What makes your blog different from everyone else’s?It has a different focus on fashion. As well as posting on what inspires me and putting up the odd outfit post, I write about the fashion theory I'm reading as well as my experiences being a full-time research student. If you're reading my blog you can expect a jumble of gorgeous photos, discussions about the academic writing that I'm reading, nervous twitching about my studies, and a lot of chat about why I love fashion.
How often should we be clicking back for new updates?I update about three times a week! You can also follow me on Bloglovin' or Google Reader if you like.
What pages are stored in your favourites tab?Jak & Jil (
jakandjil.com), Style Rookie (
thestylerookie.com), Kingdom Of Style (
kingdomofstyle.typepad.co.uk), SNP (
snprickett.com), Le Blog De Betty (
leblogdebetty.com), Girl With A Satchel (
girlwithasatchel.blogspot.com) and The Selby (
theselby.com).
Where do you get your inspiration from?I'm inspired by my friends, by the novels I read, by the blogs I follow and by the mood that takes me.
If you could steal anybody’s wardrobe, who’s would it be?Anna Dello Russo, hands down. All that couture, all that colour – and she has a whole extra apartment just to store her clothing collection!
What trend do you think is the most overrated?Double denim.
What do you think will be huge next year?I think leather is going to keep skyrocketing and that it will be all about its suppleness and elegance. A little less "biker chic", a little more "chic".
If you won a $1 million, what would you buy first?A time machine so I could go back to the ’70s and blow the rest on Yves Saint Laurent, Ossie Clark and dreamy floor-length lace dresses.
Where do you see yourself in five years?Putting the finishing touches on the book adaptation of my PhD (oh, please!) and hopefully still as content as I am now.
What would be your dream job?To be an academic in the world's first Fashion Studies department and writing for academic journal Fashion Theory from time to time. The department would preferably be located in Berlin, London or Copenhagen and all staff would get mate's rates on Net-A-Porter… well, the question did say "dream"!
