Something Else Designer Natalie Wood, takes time out to chat with us about her label and how you too can make it in fashion.
What are your fashion tips for this season?1. Layering soft and luxurious fabrics.
2. Lightweight knits - especially long cardigans draped over boxy-light tees paired with skinny black pants.
3. Also, I really like high-waisted man-style trousers and long-line jackets.
What do you winter collection like?The collection is titled Illuminous Reflections. It all really started with looking at crystals and their healing properties and wanting to have this ‘feel’ in the collection. There was a sense of a girl who would essentially save the world through a mystical and transcendental purpose.
What influences you?Nature has to be at the forefront, I also have a sense of spirituality and I hold onto having a bohemian lifestyle.
What’s next for you?We are currently building the accessories side of the brand. In the next few season we will be introducing a menswear line, further into the future I'm really interested in creating homewares.
How did you break into the fashion industry?Went to college, worked hard, got a degree with high distinctions and started freelancing while studying. I guess I made sure I had as much experience as I could get in every aspect of fashion.
Any advice for budding designers out there?Work harder, and then harder again. Never give up or take no for an answer.
But, try to balance it with stopping to smell the roses along the way.
