Tell us about your path to Dandi.
I studied industrial design at University of Technology Sydney. It’s a really hands-on four-year degree that can lead you in all sorts of directions form automotive design to accessories, textiles, graphic and homewares design. Once I’d finished uni I really wanted to follow my passion for designing beautiful and functional objects for the home. I was already friends with the other Dandi girls and we all had similar visions so together we formed Dandi.

What do you love about your job?
Being able to take mundane and necessary kitchen items and spruce them up with a bit of clever design, turning them into gorgeous pieces. I’m an avid cook so it’s nice to be able to put my creations to good use. I’ve always enjoyed painting and illustration so working for Dandi and designing fabrics is the best job for me.

Where does your inspiration come from?
Everywhere! Mainly nature, but I look at architecture, interiors and furniture too. I’m very influenced by vintage fashion as a passionate collector of vintage dresses, beads and jewellery, bags, hats, shoes and fabric. I’m always picking up bits and bobs for upcoming projects from op shops, second-hand markets, eBay and my grandmother’s house. I constantly look through magazines and books and always have paper and my camera ready to scribble down ideas and snap away at things of interest.

Do you think aprons are making a comeback as fashion statements?
he notion of being a “domestic goddess” is quite popular these days and there has been a resurgence of homewares becoming fashionable. The minimalist days are gone and it’s all about bold, bright patterns and objects to brighten your space. The Dandi Pini apron is perfect for this. Based on a ’50s-style silhouette, it’s a very feminine and flattering design, but the bold patterns add a modern edge.

Any tips for wannabe designers?
You need real passion and drive, and a willingness to do all kinds of tasks. Always be on the lookout for inspiration and keep your camera or sketchbook handy.
