She’s a fashion journalist turned television presenter who’s a style star in her own right – we chat to Plain Jane host Louise Roe about where she shops, her failsafe outfit and what she thinks of Aussie fashion…

Hi Louise! Tell us a little about yourself…
Well, I’m a fashion journalist and from London originally. I’m now living in LA hosting the makeover show Plain Jane. I love the beach, high heels and horse riding – not all at the same time!

What are you working on at the moment?
The second season of Plain Jane is just launching, so I’ve been doing press for that. Also, I have just launched my own clothing line for HSN.And then I’m off to Belfast in two weeks to host the 2011 MTV EMA red carpet for MTV International.

How would you describe your personal style?
Bright, boho, and ’70s-influenced.

What’s your failsafe outfit?
A loose, bright shirtdress and wedges, with a chunky cotton scarf and a couple of cocktail rings.

Which beauty products can’t you live without?
Lucas’ Papaw Ointment. I make my Aussie friends bring it back for me, because you can’t get it here! Plus Laura Mercier blush, Benefit concealer, Givenchy waterproof mascara ( the best I’ve found), and a mud face mask by Kate Somerville (I use it once a week). Oh, and Guerlain face and eye cream.

Have you ever been to Australia? What do you think of Australian fashion?
Yes! I lived there for a year when I was 19 years old, and soaked up the incredible fashion the girls have. I thought the style would be just surfer‐ish, but actually, the up‐and‐coming labels are so impressive, as is Sydney Fashion Week. You see some incredibly edgy and chic looks on the street.

What’s your favourite fashion week: London, Paris, New York or Milan?
Paris, because the setting is just so romantic. You’ll go to a show in a historic museum or ballroom, and then walk along the Seine to the next one, and it really brings alive why you love fashion so much. Sometimes Paris Fashion Week feels like you’re living in a movie.

Here in the Southern Hemisphere, we’re heading into spring/summer. What are your favourite trends for the warmer weather?
Lots of orange and coral. Those are my key colours. Wear them with a warm neutral instead of with black or white. Wooden wedges, clutches and jewellery – I’m so into that. And floaty, printed maxidresses.

Where are your favourite places to shop?
I like a mix of bargain and the odd splash-out. Forever21, H&M, Zara, Topshop, Intermix, Joie, Camilla Skovgaard shoes, and stylistpick.com for chunky bargain jewellery.

What are you favourite online stores?
Stylistpick.com, shopbop.com, my‐wardrobe.com and hsn.com.

What was the last fashion/beauty item you purchased?
Just before I got home to do this interview, I was walking back from the gym and got distracted by the window display at Intermix. I saw an animal print smock top from Joie in the sale and nabbed it!

Plain Jane airs on MTV Australia, Mondays at 8.30pm.
