Blogging insights from the front row of 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty: Margaret Zhang
POSTED 01.11.2011 @ 13:15
In September, three of our favourite bloggers attended 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty as guests of
Commonwealth Bank. We caught up with them after the shows to get their insights into blogging, celeb spotting and the looks they’re saving up for this season.
Margaret Zhang,
Shine by ThreeHow did you get into fashion blogging?
Shine By Three started out as a visual diary of inspiration and fairly extensive wishlists. I noticed a few months in that readers appreciated original content posts more eg outfit posts and interviews with new designers, so that's the general direction the blog has taken. (I have, however, just started up a
Tumblr to get back into some pure visual appreviation!) At the moment I'm studying Commerce/Law at the University of Sydney, and over the past year, I've tried to fit in some internships to gain some insight into the industry, but when I started blogging I was just your regular Year 11 student whose studies didn't quite fulfil my creative inclinations.
What’s the most exciting thing that’s happened because of your blog?
Am I allowed to get ahead of myself? I have a number of very exciting projects coming up, many of which will be taking place when I head to New York for a month next January (fashion week inclusive!) to work with incredible creative minds over there, so watch this space! A highlight of 2011, though, was self-shooting Aussie label Paper Skye's fantastic SS11/12 collection, then styling their show at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week - it was so surreal seeing it all come down the runway!
Describe your highlight of 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty
Hearing Alexa Chung's take on fashion and beauty – not to mention being insanely starstruck at her being 3 metres away! It's always great to hear what people so highly regarded in the industry have to say. Better still when they're so down to earth and hilarious!
What’s on your shopping wish list right now? What are your money tips to fast-track your saving?
I'm unhealthily obsessed with an orange Yigal Azrouel coat from his fall/winter 2011 collection. In terms of saving, I’m not so great. I always save up the money, then chicken out splurging on something big at the last minute. Then spend it all on 5 items I wanted just as much - ultimate self-justification.
