Australian jewellery designer, Samantha Wills, was selling her boutique jewellery designs from her Bondi market stall only a few years ago. Now, her designs are seen on Hollywood heavyweights like, Eva Mendes, and 14 of her creations will feature in Sex and the City 2. We take a look at some of Samantha’s fashion secrets …
What are your top winter must-haves? Knee-high boots are a must, so are vintage-inspired trinket bracelets – so Parisian chic!
Who is your international fashion inspiration and why? I have a lot of admiration for woman like, Tory Burch and Rachel Roy. Also, as silly as it sounds, Lady Gaga is amazing to look at from a fashion meets art perspective. I’m constantly inspired by what Patricia Field does with The Sex and the City characters, especially Carrie.
Your top five fashion boutiques? 1. The Corner Shop in the Strand Arcade in Sydney - because the merchandising is always so inspiring. It’s like visiting a friend who has an amazing wardrobe and a really artistic and chic home.(02) 9221 1788.
2. Designer Forum in Robina in Queensland, (07) 5562 5100 and the Castle Hill store in New South Wales (02) 9894 2244. The buyer, Karen has fantastic taste and a great eye for styles that are sexy, with an elegant edge.
3. Dana in High Street in Armadale is a favourite new haunt of mine – it is a beautiful environment to shop in and a dangerous selection of gorgeous dresses.
4. I don’t get to Brisbane all that often, but when I do I always head straight to Fortitude Valley. The whole area has a style of its own! I love Ollie & Lloyd, ollie-lloyd.com.au for fashion, gifts and beautiful homewares; Ellia for stylish frocks (07) 3630 1766; and Fallow (07) 3854 0155 for key edgy pieces and an inspiration environment.
5. Oh, I never leave Tuchuzy in Bondi without something (02) 9365 5371.
What’s your fashion obsession? I’m obsessed with Chanel handbags, either vintage and new. I literally loose my breath in a Chanel boutique.
Favourite international designer? Stella McCartney for her chic meets sexy style.
Where do you find your inspiration? I am lucky enough to be able to travel the world for my job, so inspiration comes naturally. London, Paris, New York, galleries, to people watching. Inspiration is literally everywhere.
What’s in your handbag right now? My Passport, iPod and lots of loose jewellery I always have to strip off to go through airport metal detectors, then I forget to put it back on.
