Calling all tween queens...

When
New Moon hit cinemas late last year, most
Twilight fans were excited to check out R-Patz on the big screen. Me? I queued up for the midnight session, eager to see Dakota Fanning turn over to the dark side – literally, as a blood-sucking vampire.
See, I’ve been a Dakota fan since
I Am Sam, but lately I’ve found myself more interested in her off-screen style (something I struggle with given I’m almost eight years her senior). Along with Emma Watson and company, Dakota has become part of that enviable teen-star-turned-style-icon crew that have all the physical blessings of youth (not a wrinkle in sight and legs for days) but are coming out with some seriously banging – and grown-up – outfits.
But right now, it’s not Dakota’s styled-up red-carpet ensembles that have me re-thinking my wardrobe. It’s her casual get-up I’m really coveting. Whether she’s working jeans with hi-tops and a sequinned jumper, or leggings with an oversized scarf and Wellies, Dakota’s street style is effortless and – best of all – practical. You could run, jump and hurdle in those kind of clothes. Such is the beauty of a 16-year-old’s wardrobe. It’s comfort first and style a very close second.
Teamed with her straight yet slightly unkempt hair (the look I always go for with my GHD, but fail to achieve) Dakota’s is a carefree look that you wouldn’t be embarrassed to take outside the house. And that’s a winner in my book.
Oh, and did I mention I’m thinking of converting to a centre part? It just works so well for Dakota…
