He’s tended the tresses of A-listers such as Angelina and Scarlett but these days celebrity hairstylist David Babaii is looking after some other manes as well. Together with Academy Award nominee Kate Hudson, David has teamed up with WildAid to create styling products that are free from chemicals and animal testing – so you can have great hair, while taking care of the environment as well.

What are your top tips for winter haircare?
Obviously conditioning is very important, but you must be careful not to over condition. Be plentiful but make sure you rinse. And make sure you use David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish to seal in the moisture.

What styles do you think will be really big in summer?
Bangs (I think you call them fringes in Australia) are really amazing and of course the classic bohemian waves.

Okay, so we’ve gone for the chop and got the ‘bangs’. How do we keep them salon-perfect at home?
Bangs can be achieved by using a large round brush to get that great curve. Blow-dry the roots first to add volume, brushing hair in the opposite direction of your natural part to create movement. When hair is mostly dry, hold the brush vertically and wrap your bangs around it towards the side where you want your hair to be parted. Point the blow-dryer down and aim a blast of hot air on the brush to smooth the hair cuticle and set the slight wave in your hair. Continue to blow-dry and pull hair to the side until you're satisfied. It’s really important to note that a really great cut is crucial if you want perfect bangs.

And the perfect beachy wave?
For beachy waves, spray wet hair with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spay and simply let it dry naturally. The key is really not to be a slave to your hair in summer! On dry locks, you achieve the best results by liberally spraying individual strands and wrapping hair around the outside of your curling iron and hold for ten seconds. Then you release and continue until you get the desired amount of curl.

What are your must-have products?
I use David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray on everyone – it’s great for every type of hair. The Amplifying Whipped Mousse in my range gives fantastic texture to hair in summer, without the stickiness usually associated with this type of product, and the Hair Polish is also a must-have to lock in the moisture and finish every style.

How do you work with WildAid?
I first heard about WildAid from Angelina Jolie. I have been to Africa and have seen firsthand the devastation. It is so important to preserve wildlife, to stop illegal trade and to find an alternative to poaching. I’ve seen the work that WildAid does over there and I’m hopefully helping by spreading the word and raising awareness.

What was it like working with Kate?

Working with Kate is like working with my sister. It’s a lot of fun.

Who are some of your other celebrity clients?
Uma Thurman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson to name a few.

What’s up next for you?
I’ll be working with Angelina when Salt premieres, but I may also be working on a new movie which I have never done and I am very excited about.
