My hair part always gets sunburnt in summer, but I hate wearing hats and am not about to rub sunscreen into my hair – any suggestions?  
 

You’re not alone. The scalp is so susceptible to sun damage (and even melanomas) because we often forget to cover it up. To be really safe, you should be wearing a hat but if that absolutely will not work for you (and I do understand – hat hair is the thing that prevents me from riding my bike to work) then you’ll be pleased to know that a whole crop of new haircare ranges come with some form of sun protection. This is mostly to protect your locks from the potential damage from UV rays (drying out your hair, wearing on your colour) but will have a slight benefit on the skin on your head provided you use enough of it. To get the most out of this stuff, use something that you’ll leave on (as opposed to shampoo which you’ll wash out). Try a spray like KMS Solperfection All Day Defense, $25.95, or a cream like Redken 5th Avenue NYC UV Rescue Shimmering Defense, $25.
