aka Jane Ogilvie, market editor Star sign Sagittarius (which means I am adventurous... have you seen my shoe collection?). Wish list The new Chanel 2.55, Miu Miu ballet flats (Most importantly please note that both work back perfectly with a chic little black dress). What’s in my bag I’m the modern day Mary Poppins, I won't pull out a lamp shade, however you can find anything from my mini beauty bar to a change of shoes (opposite in style to what I’m wearing).

A cautionary tale
Posted: 25 June 2008
I have officially run out of shoe money – and I’m not talking about the ridiculous amount that I somehow just found to pay for the new Prada pair I’ve been eyeing off all season. No, no – I’m talking about the never-ending amount of money I’ve been spending on unforecasted maintenance fees. Finally, after countless lectures from our former art director aka excessively expensive shoe collector Carly Townsend, the first thing I do after I buy a new pair is rush out straight to my favorite shoe repairers and get them rubber soled; initial outlay = $35. This is a must as it prevents the leather sole from wearing through, gives you more grip, and usually if there’s swanky finishing on the edges of the shoe it will prevent them from being ruining too. Secondly, you need to make sure you have various leather protecting sprays for the specific type of leather they are made with – suede, metallic, patent, the list goes on; protecting spray = $14.95. Okay, now lets fast forward three weeks down the track – you’ve been wearing them every second day (after all, they are your new love) and the little rubber stopper has almost worn down to reveal the metal nail; time to replace = $9. So, aside from the initial $585 price tag (yes, they are Prada, but did I mention I got them at a 45 per cent off end of season sale?!) I’ve already spent an extra $58.95. You would be correct to assume you might be able to take this money and purchase something else you’ve been eyeing off (well, maybe not in Prada...) But for me, It’s almost like buying a boat or a car: so fun to whirl around in but sure to depreciate in value (or seasonal credentials) and incur several running costs along the way. But I think in the end they are worth all the dollingos – because nothing puts a bounce in your step like a shiny new pair of shoes! Just be aware of the hidden extras you may not think about whilst you’re waltzing up and down in front of the mirror thinking about how much you’re saving by buying them on sale….
